Course Information
Introduction
Power transformers are considered an essential element in all electric power networks.
Electric utilities and industrial companies always pay a great attention to their power transformers to ensure the continuity of their electric networks.
This Course is intended to provide advanced engineering aspects of power transformers.
Emphasis shall be laid on topics relevant to power transformers selection, operation, and maintenance.
A special attention will be paid to the available advanced failure prediction techniques of power transformers. These techniques include evaluation of insulation oil and generated gases.
This is considered an important aid to avoid transformer failures during transmission.
Objectives
By the end of this course practitioners shall learn to:
• The power transformer construction, ratings and applications
• The Effects of transformer operation under nonlinear loads
• Different types of power transformers tests
• The importance of the Routine Impulse Test
• The methodology to evaluate the transformer insulation life
• The calculation of the transformer’s temperatures and its aging factor
• The thermal evaluation of liquid-immersed power transformers
• Interpretation of gases generated in oil-immersed transformers
• Reclamation and maintenance of insulating oil
• Investigation of transformer failure
• Power transformer maintenance
